Work has begun on Oakmond Marbella Wellness Clinic Resort, a major redevelopment of the former Incosol hotel, which has been closed since 2012. Marbella mayor Ángeles Muñoz attended the project’s foundation-stone ceremony on Wednesday, 21 October, alongside Ilanga Capital founder and project promoter Pelayo Cortina.

The development is expected to open in 2029. According to the municipality, it represents an investment of more than €260 million and will occupy a plot of over 53,000 square metres, with around 40,000 square metres of built area.

Plans include hotel accommodation, residences and a 10,000-square-metre medical clinic specialising in preventive medicine, early diagnosis and personalised treatments. The resort is also set to include wellness facilities, a spa and dining spaces.

The site’s earlier identity is central to the project’s pitch: Incosol was known for combining hotel services with healthcare before it closed. Muñoz said the redevelopment would bring the property back into use and create skilled employment, while presenting the project as part of Marbella’s drive to attract higher-value tourism. Those are stated aims; the announcement does not give job numbers or a construction timetable.

Cortina described Oakmond as more than a building refurbishment, saying its ambition was to revive Incosol’s pioneering character in a contemporary form. He said the concept would bring together advanced medicine, research, artificial intelligence and high-end hospitality, with a focus on detecting health risks early and helping people maintain their health for longer.

The project’s backers also see Marbella as the starting point for a wider international initiative. Cortina said the resort was intended to attract scientific and technology professionals as well as visitors. The municipality expects the health and wellness offer to support year-round tourism, though no visitor forecasts were provided.

The city council said Goldman Sachs Alternatives is providing €145 million in financing. It also credited municipal technical teams with helping process the development. The available announcement does not specify how the remainder of the stated investment will be funded, nor does it set out the project’s construction phases.

For residents and visitors, the immediate change is the start of work at a long-closed hotel site. The next major milestone given by the promoters is the planned 2029 opening; further details on building progress and the services available are yet to be announced.
