The Andalusian Centre for Contemporary Art (CAAC), which is part of the Andalusian regional government’s Department of Culture, Historical Heritage and Sport, has opened applications for a new edition of ‘A secas’. The programme aims to showcase contemporary artistic work by artists born in or resident in Andalusia and to increase its visibility. Applications are open until September 24, 2026; the programme will culminate in events at the CAAC on November 19 and 20.
The sixth edition will select a maximum of 10 participants from the applications received. A panel of experts from different areas of contemporary art will assess the submissions. The panel comprises Latitudes, the curatorial office founded by Max Andrews and Mariana Cánepa Luna; Marta Rincón, head of Visual Arts, Architecture and Design at Acción Cultural Española (AC/E); and Juan Francisco Rueda, an art history professor at the University of Málaga, curator and art critic.
Applicants must submit materials to asecas.caac@juntadeandalucia.es in line with the rules published on the CAAC website. These include a summary of their artistic careers, a selection of works with images and explanatory texts, and viewing links for audiovisual works. Applicants must also provide the requested personal information and, where applicable, proof of residence in Andalusia.
The deadline is September 24. Applicants will be notified of the decision by email from October 14, and the results will also be available on the CAAC website and social media. Selected artists will have up to 30 minutes to present their work to a specialist audience that includes critics, curators, gallery owners and representatives of Andalusian and Spanish art institutions.
The programme is part of a broader initiative by the CAAC and the Andalusian Centre for Contemporary Creation (C3A), which periodically organise exhibitions focused on current artistic work from Andalusia. Some selected artists may later be invited to take part in those exhibitions. The CAAC describes ‘A secas’ as a forum for meeting, exchange and discussion within Andalusia’s art community.
