A total of 494 public education centres in Andalusia are benefiting from infrastructure improvements through 551 projects carried out this year by the Regional Ministry of Education and the Andalusian Public Education Agency (APAE). The projects have a combined budget of more than €106 million and concern facilities attended by 230,000 pupils. So far, 158 projects have been completed and 159 are under construction. The rest are at different administrative stages, including procurement or project design, and are expected to be completed before the end of the year.

The projects comprise three new or replacement schools, 27 expansions and 521 renovations, improvements or modernisations. Infrastructure work this year has in large part focused on repairing damage caused to schools by severe weather at the beginning of the year. Work has also continued to improve access to school buildings by removing barriers and adapting spaces.

By province, the projects are distributed as follows: Almería, 63; Cádiz, 82; Córdoba, 34; Granada, 71; Huelva, 44; Jaén, 84; Málaga, 112; and Seville, 61. By education level, 308 projects are at secondary schools, 219 at infant, primary and special education schools, and 24 at special-regime institutions—such as conservatories, art schools and language schools—or other centres, including school residences, teacher training centres and adult education institutes.

The three new or replacement projects are the new Las Salinas Secondary School in Roquetas de Mar, Almería, which is under construction; replacement of the primary-school building at CEIP Los Argonautas in Chipiona, Cádiz, also under construction; and CEIP Bernardo Barco in La Campana, Seville, which opened partially last academic year and was completed this summer. These projects received co-funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for 2021–27.

Of the 27 expansion projects, examples include completed work at the Las Norias infant school in El Ejido and La Rosaleda infant school in Roquetas de Mar, both in Almería, co-funded through the Recovery and Resilience Facility. Expansions at IES Al Yanub in Vera and IES Juan Goytisolo in Carboneras are under construction; the latter is part of the Just Transition Fund. Projects are also underway at schools in Cádiz, Córdoba, Granada, Huelva, Jaén and Málaga. In Seville province, expansion of CEIP Valdés Leal in the city has been completed, including a new school dining building.

A total of 522 renovation, improvement or modernisation projects have been completed or are expected to finish this year. Nearly 200 are intended to repair damage caused by the series of storms that hit Andalusia in January and February. Among them are major refurbishments at IES Virgen de la Esperanza in La Línea and the School of Art and Higher Design in Jerez, both in Cádiz province, and roof repairs at IES San Blas in Aracena, Huelva; all are under construction.

Accessibility work accounts for 134 projects completed or underway in 2026, with a budget of €11.2 million. The work includes installing lifts, building ramps and creating adapted toilets and dedicated classrooms to support pupils with special educational needs or reduced mobility. The first projects in the second phase of the programme for school bioclimatisation and renewable energy are also due to begin this year. Other infrastructure work includes repairing building defects and removing construction materials containing asbestos.
