The Andalusian Government’s Council of Government took note of grants for owners of almond farms affected by frost in several provinces in March and April 2026. The aid is funded with €10 million from the regional government’s own funds and is intended to compensate growers in Almería, Granada, Jaén and Málaga for losses caused by frost in late March and early April 2026.

Temperatures fell exceptionally low in several areas, reaching as low as -5°C at some weather stations. The cold arrived while almond trees were flowering, setting fruit and beginning fruit development, stages when they are particularly sensitive to low temperatures. The frost caused the loss of many flowers and fruits.

The Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development established the aid program in response to the scale of the damage and its effect on the viability of numerous farms. The stated aim is to compensate for agricultural losses and provide financial support to affected growers.

To qualify, applicants must have lost at least 30% of their almond production as a result of the frost. Among other requirements, beneficiaries must own plantings that are at least five years old and meet the technical cultivation conditions set out in the governing rules.
