Andalusia’s Emergency Agency (EMA), part of the Regional Ministry of the Presidency, Health and Emergencies, said its 112 service handled 89 incidents related to rain and storms during the early hours of Sunday, October 18, 2026. Seventy-three were in Málaga province, the area most affected in recent hours. Reports included flooded homes and roads, landslides, people trapped by water and electricity supply problems, particularly in Málaga city and its surroundings.
From 00:12, the service received more than 50 reports from El Palo, in Málaga city, mainly about flooded homes and roads and fallen trees. At 23:57 on Saturday, it also received a report of 10 people trapped in the tunnel area at Peñón del Cuervo beach. Water above ankle height prevented them from leaving. Firefighters responded, and the incident was resolved without further consequences.
Rain also caused electricity supply problems in Málaga city and Estepona, as well as landslides and road disruption. The Axarquía area was under a red rain alert for three hours, until 03:00 on Sunday. The regional agency urged people to remain cautious as rainfall continued and the risk of sudden flooding persisted. The regional emergency plan for flood risk remained at emergency phase, operational situation 1; it had been raised to that level at 15:14 on Saturday. Seventeen local civil protection emergency plans were also active: 12 in Almería province, four in Málaga and one in Granada.
From the start of the weather episode at 12:00 on Saturday until 07:00 on Sunday, 112 handled 357 incidents across Andalusia. Almería recorded 143, Málaga 97, Seville 60, Córdoba 26, Granada 20, Cádiz seven, Jaén three and Huelva one. The agency said incidents had so far been closed without personal injuries. Of the reports, 236 concerned flooding and related events, including overflows, landslides and fallen trees; 37 involved rescues, 38 basic-service disruptions, 20 traffic incidents, seven road accidents and five collapses or falls. A further 14 were other types of emergency associated with the storm.
Road closures included the MA-3101 in Málaga, closed in both directions at kilometres 1 and 25 from 00:45 on Sunday because of landslides. Traffic had been restored on the A-7 at kilometre 818 in El Ejido, Almería, after flooding had closed it on Saturday. A partial closure was also reported on the CO-4207 at kilometre 5 in Montilla, Córdoba.
The state weather agency maintained rain and storm alerts across all eight Andalusian provinces for Sunday, at orange and yellow levels in different areas. The regional emergency agency advised people to avoid non-essential road travel, never cross flooded roads or waterways on foot or by vehicle, and follow instructions from emergency and traffic services. It also advised checking road conditions before travelling and taking precautions at home and during thunderstorms. The 112 emergency number is available around the clock.
