The Andalusian Historical Heritage Institute (IAPH), an entity of the Regional Ministry of Culture, Historical Heritage and Sport, and the General Council of Seville Brotherhoods and Confraternities have signed an agreement establishing a framework for cooperation on specialist training in the conservation and protection of confraternity heritage. The agreement provides for them to jointly organise the course “Heritage Conservation in Brotherhoods and Confraternities,” to be held at the Council’s headquarters from 16 to 19 November 2026.
Patricia del Pozo, regional minister for Culture, Historical Heritage and Sport, attended the signing. The agreement was signed by José Roda Peña, president of the General Council, and Juan José Primo Jurado, director general of the IAPH. Del Pozo said the agreement “encourages good practices within the organisations.” She also highlighted the role of brotherhoods and confraternities in safeguarding Andalusia’s devotional heritage, and said cooperation was important to protecting the cultural, artistic and documentary heritage they hold.
The course is intended to raise awareness of heritage among the organisations, help participants identify the tangible and intangible cultural values of their collections, and expand the knowledge of those responsible for managing and handling them, particularly members of governing boards. The programme will be delivered by specialist technical staff from the IAPH’s Intervention Centre, drawing on their experience in conservation, restoration and preventive conservation. The Council will announce registration details at a later date.
The training builds on courses and events held in Andalusia since 2021. Previous initiatives took place in Seville, Málaga, Jerez de la Frontera, Huelva, Córdoba and Granada. In 2024, the IAPH also published a practical guide to managing documentary heritage in brotherhoods and confraternities, available in print and digital formats through Andalusia’s Cultural Shops.
