The Andalusian Ministry of Tourism, Justice, Deregulation and Local Administration took part this week in Routes World, a global air-connectivity event held in Frankfurt, Germany. The Andalusian delegation held meetings with international airlines at the fair, which brings together global decision-makers to discuss long-term opportunities for carriers to expand their presence at airports and destinations with potential strategic partners.

The meetings were intended to introduce airlines to the region’s tourism offer and the potential of its air connectivity through Andalusia’s six airports. Scheduled discussions included Air Canada, which recently announced a direct Montreal–Seville service, as well as Emirates and Etihad, both of which have substantial long-haul operations.

Wizz Air has launched a route to Granada from London Luton, while newly established Fly2Galicia is also set to operate at Granada-Jaén Airport.

Routes World’s programme also included panel discussions, airline briefings and workshops addressing market outlooks, business strategy and the state of the industry, with sessions offering advice from sector experts.

The Andalusian delegation also met with easyJet. The airline held an event in Málaga to mark the fifth anniversary of its base at the airport. It currently operates 25 routes from the base and has announced flights to Southampton, Bordeaux and Biarritz.
