Tourism generated more than 59,000 jobs in hotel accommodation in Andalusia during the summer months of July to September, almost 10% more than in the same period a year earlier. The increase coincided with higher occupancy and more available hotel places. According to the monthly report on hotel activity in Andalusia, prepared by the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Justice, Deregulation and Local Administration using data from Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE), hotels recorded 21 million overnight stays, 2.1% more than in summer 2025 and the highest figure in the series for this period. Hotels received 6.6 million visitors, also up 2.1%.

International visitor numbers rose 2.2%, while overnight stays by international visitors increased 3.5%. Among domestic visitors, the corresponding increases were 2% and 0.8%. The hotel occupancy rate rose by 1.4 percentage points to 67.91%, and available places approached 325,000, up 0.4% from a year earlier.

Manuel Gavira, the region’s second vice-president and minister for Tourism, Justice, Deregulation and Local Administration, said the figures showed tourism was one of Andalusia’s major economic drivers. He said the government aimed to improve the figures and support tourism that generates more value, wealth and employment, with benefits reaching all provinces throughout the year.

Málaga accounted for 37.4% of Andalusia’s overnight stays, an increase of 0.7%. The largest increases were in Cádiz (+4.6%), Córdoba (+4.5%) and Jaén (+4.4%), followed by Almería (+3.7%), Huelva (+3.4%) and Seville (+2.7%). Overnight stays in Granada fell 2.4%, although visitor numbers there rose 1.1%. The highest occupancy rates were in Málaga (77.13%), Cádiz (71.83%) and Huelva (69.5%). Hotel employment increased most in Jaén (+19%) and Huelva (+16.4%). Gavira also said overnight-stay growth in many provinces reflected the diversity of the region’s tourism offer, and reiterated the aim of supporting activity throughout the year, including in inland Andalusia.

From January to September, Andalusian hotels received 16.3 million visitors (+2.5%) and recorded 47.4 million overnight stays (+2.9%), a record for the first nine months of the year and 1.3 million more than in 2025. Hotel employment rose 10.7% over the period to more than 48,000 workers. Occupancy reached 59.25%, and available places exceeded 285,000.
