A long-awaited infrastructure upgrade is under way in Valle del Sol, San Pedro Alcántara, where residents are set to gain mains water, sewerage and public lighting. Marbella City Council says the first phase has a budget of €4.3 million and is expected to take around eight months, with completion scheduled for April 2027.

The works cover roughly one kilometre along two parallel roads. They include new water and sewer networks, separate systems for rainwater and wastewater, street lighting, and new telecommunications and electricity conduits. The new sewerage network will replace the area’s previous reliance on septic tanks.

Roads are also being reconfigured. Their width is due to increase from six metres to 10 metres, with a six-metre carriageway and two-metre pavements on each side. The plan also includes tree pits for future planting.

The council says the area lacked essential urban services, and that residents had faced problems including flooding during rain, difficulties with water supply and safety concerns linked to the absence of street lighting. The new networks and public-realm improvements are intended to address those shortcomings.

Construction will proceed one street at a time, the council says, to preserve alternative routes into and out of the development and access to properties. The project has required owners to give up space and move back walls and fences to allow the roads to be widened.

The current phase focuses on two key roads, Valle del Sol and Camino de Granadilla. A second stage is planned, and the overall project is expected to cost €7 million, according to San Pedro’s deputy mayor, Javier García. The council says the new General Urban Development Plan classifies the area as urban land, enabling the necessary urbanisation works.

The project is part of Marbella’s local improvement levy, approved late last year, and is being carried out with water concessionaire Hidralia. The council says it follows infrastructure works in El Rosario, Hacienda Las Chapas, Costabella and northern Marbella.
