Málaga is staging a six-event cultural programme about Bernardo de Gálvez as part of commemorations for the 250th anniversary of US independence, which falls on 4 July 2026. The series, called De Gálvez 250, is organised by The Hispanic Council with Málaga City Council, Málaga Provincial Council and the Andalusian regional government.
The programme opens on 9 April at 18:00 in the Salón de los Espejos at Málaga City Hall, with a talk by Elvira Roca Barea. The second event is scheduled for 16 April at 18:30 at the Centro Cultural La Malagueta, featuring Admiral Juan Rodríguez Garat.
On 7 May, painter Augusto Ferrer-Dalmau is due to speak at the City Hall’s Salón de los Espejos, starting at 18:30. Lucas Montojo follows on 28 May at 19:00, in the same venue.
The fifth talk moves to the MUCAC La Coracha auditorium on 18 June at 19:00, with María José Rubio. The final event listed is on 2 July at 19:00 at the Centro Cultural La Malagueta, where Manuel Olmedo and Paco Reyero are scheduled to take part.
The schedule places events in several central Málaga venues, including City Hall, the La Malagueta cultural centre and MUCAC La Coracha. The programme page also links to promotional material for the speakers on Instagram.
The series is part of a wider effort by the organisers to highlight Gálvez’s legacy in connection with the US anniversary. The city has also announced a tourism promotion initiative titled De Gálvez 250, which a related council notice said would begin in Miami and visit 16 US cities.
The listed dates run from early April to the eve of the anniversary, giving residents a series of talks in the months leading up to 4 July. The source material does not specify ticketing or booking arrangements.
