Beaches across Málaga province were busy on Saturday as warm, clear weather brought a summer feel to the final days of October. Crowds gathered at La Malagueta in Málaga city and along the Costa del Sol, with some visitors also taking a dip in the sea.
The warm westerly breeze was especially noticeable in Rincón de la Victoria, Torremolinos, Vélez-Málaga and Estepona. The conditions offered a chance to spend time outdoors before November, though the sunshine did not mean temperatures were equally high everywhere in the province.
Málaga’s state weather station recorded 27.3C in Rincón de la Victoria at 4pm on Saturday. Other reported highs included 26.2C in Coín and 26C in Vélez-Málaga. The hottest reading in Spain that day was in Seville, at more than 28C, while Tenerife reached almost 30C.
Friday was warmer still in several locations. Rincón de la Victoria reached 31.8C, while Manilva recorded 30.7C and Vélez-Málaga 29.4C. The Port of Málaga reached 27.7C and Torremolinos 27.5C.
Beach visitors included tourists from central and northern Europe, as well as local residents. Some families and children went into the water, which the report described as pleasant, while others used the beach as a quieter alternative to the busy city centre.
The warm spell was expected to continue during the following week. Málaga weather expert José Luis Escudero forecast coastal highs of 26C to 28C and inland temperatures of around 23C to 25C. Overnight lows were expected to be more moderate: about 15C to 16C on the coast and 11C to 13C inland.
For residents and visitors, the forecast points to more opportunities for outdoor plans, but also a sharp contrast between warm afternoons and cooler nights. The weekend’s beach crowds arrived as seasonal chestnut stalls were appearing for All Saints’ Day, a reminder that the calendar is moving into autumn even as the weather remains unusually mild.
