Halloween plans across Málaga province have changed after a rail tragedy in Toledo led the government to declare days of mourning. Councils have cancelled some events and moved others from Saturday 31 October. The decisions vary by municipality, so residents should check the schedule for the specific event they plan to attend.
In Málaga city, the council has cancelled municipal activities scheduled in the districts and Friday’s Poloween Horror Fest at the Polo Nacional de Contenidos Digitales. Some other events are continuing: Muelle Uno’s “Cielito lindo” programme is set for Saturday from 5.30pm to 9pm, with sweets while stocks last, a photo booth and a fancy-dress competition. The La Concepción botanical garden also plans to hold its booked narrative tour, “La residencia de las sombras”, with sessions from 7pm; advance booking is required and the ticket costs €17.
At Plaza Mayor, the special activities for its “Garden of Lost Souls” have been postponed, with new dates to be announced. Its Saturday trick-or-treat activity at participating shops is still scheduled to go ahead. These venue-specific arrangements are separate from the city council’s cancelled municipal programme.
Torremolinos has moved its free “Fiesta del terror” at the Pablo Ruiz Picasso cultural centre to Sunday 1 November, keeping the planned hours of 4.30pm to 9.30pm. Activities include workshops and a treasure hunt, followed by a horror tunnel from 7pm. Access is first-come, first-served; the tunnel entrance is at the rear of the cultural centre. Benalmádena, by contrast, has cancelled Saturday’s planned activities at several sites, including Plaza de las Tres Culturas and Casa del Terror “Los Páez”.
Marbella has shifted its celebrations to Sunday. “El reino de las sombras” will run from 6pm to midnight at venues along Paseo de la Alameda, Avenida Nabeul and Parque de la Represa; the town’s Tostón celebration will also take place that day. In San Pedro Alcántara, “La pasarela de los susurros” is planned for the boulevard from 6pm to midnight. Activities in Nueva Andalucía, El Ángel and Las Chapas are also scheduled for Sunday, at different venues and times.
In the Axarquía, Vélez-Málaga has cancelled municipal activities, including those planned in Torre del Mar, Chilches and several other localities in the municipality. Torrox and Rincón de la Victoria have also suspended their programmes. Maroween in Maro has been moved to Sunday, with its planned parade, tastings, costume competitions and music due to start at 5pm.
Mijas, Fuengirola and Estepona have cancelled their Halloween celebrations. Alhaurín de la Torre has postponed youth-centre events across Sunday and Monday, with ticket arrangements changed for the rescheduled sessions. Ticket-holders unable to attend can request a refund from the Casa de la Juventud before their event. Cártama has moved its celebrations to Sunday, with parades from 4pm and later activities at sites in Cártama Pueblo and Estación de Cártama.
