Two people died and seven others were injured in a collision involving a truck and several cars on the AP-7 in Benahavís, Málaga province, on Monday, according to 1-1-2, part of the Andalusian Emergency Agency under the regional government’s Department of the Presidency, Health and Emergencies.

The crash occurred at 5:50 p.m. at kilometre 1,061 in the direction of Málaga. The truck caught fire, prompting the intervention of the Provincial Fire Consortium and the Infoca Plan to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby woodland. EMA Infoca said the fire did not ultimately affect forest land. It kept a monitoring and follow-up operation in place, with 18 ground personnel and two fire engines, in case further intervention was needed.

Emergency officials advised residents of nearby housing developments to close doors and windows to keep smoke out of their homes. They also urged people to avoid the fire area and to take particular care to protect children, older people, those with chronic illnesses and people with respiratory conditions.

The 061 Emergency Health Centre, part of the Andalusian Health Service, dispatched six medical units and a helicopter. The helicopter took one of the injured to Punta Europa Hospital in Algeciras. Emergency crews located the truck driver’s body and completed the work to recover it.
