Málaga Port has carried out its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) refuelling of a cruise ship using a ship-to-ship transfer. The 220-metre Corinthian received 300 cubic metres of LNG from the specialised vessel Alisios LNG, which came alongside to make the transfer.

The Corinthian is operated by Orient Express and has hybrid propulsion: LNG-powered engines and three rigid sails that can harness wind when conditions allow. The transfer means fuel can be supplied directly between vessels rather than delivered by tanker lorries on the dock.

The port has previously supplied LNG to cruise ships by lorry, including the Silver Nova in 2023. Ship-to-ship transfers were introduced for freight vessels in 2025. The latest operation is part of the Port Authority’s Puerto Verde initiative, which aims to improve energy efficiency and meet shipping-sector environmental requirements.
