Marbepop marked its 40th anniversary at Parque de La Represa in Marbella on Saturday, October 24, with free entry and a fundraising offer for the local animal charity Triple A. Festival-goers could buy a reusable cup for an extra €1 with their first drink; organisers said proceeds from 1,000 cups would go to the association.

Triple A cares for abandoned dogs and cats in Marbella. The charity’s volunteer Pilar Jimenez welcomed the initiative and encouraged residents to find out more about the organisation and consider donating directly.

Marbella youth councillor Alejandro Gonzalez said the cup scheme combined support for local organisations with efforts to reduce reliance on single-use plastic. The report did not state how many cups were sold or how much the appeal raised.

Triple A is reported to care for around 600 animals, with monthly costs of about €60,000 for food, medication, surgery and other veterinary care. Marbella Town Hall provides the association with an annual grant of €120,000, while Gonzalez said additional community support remains important to meet the scale of its work.

The anniversary programme brought together established and newer acts. The listed performers included Las Dianas, Besmaya and La Leshe que Mamate, alongside Marbella artists Benjamin Paco, Hako, Klimax, Hizox, Aigy and Ñeco.

The line-up changed after the festival was postponed because of forecasts of heavy rain: Besmaya replaced Malmö 040, and Benjamin Paco took the place of Skabum. La Leshe que Mamate, a Marbella band associated with Marbepop’s early years, performed with Poorhouse Rockers.

Marbepop began as part of Marbella’s youth cultural movement. Its 40th edition featured a mix of musical styles, including rap, trap and contemporary sounds, as well as alternative pop, rock and ska-inspired music.

The immediate next step for the animal appeal is for Triple A to receive the proceeds from the cup sales. Residents who want to support the charity can also contact it directly, though no donation details were provided in the report.
