A family dairy in Casares is entering the World Cheese Awards for the first time, with its semi-cured cheese set to compete among close to 5,000 entries in Córdoba from 12 to 15 November.

Quesería Crestellina’s manager, Juan Ocaña, said the business was returning to competitions after several years away. He said the event’s location in Andalucía helped prompt the decision, and that meeting other producers and comparing cheesemaking methods mattered more than winning a prize.

The awards assess cheeses in categories rather than ranking every entry in a single list. Crestellina’s entry will put the Casares producer before international judges. The dairy is also associated with Payoya goats and offers visits, tastings and cheesemaking workshops.
