Marbella is carrying out a comprehensive infrastructure renewal in La Florida Sur, a residential area where ageing services are being replaced as part of a project costing more than €1.2 million. The works cover close to 3,300 square metres and are scheduled to take eight months, according to the city council.
The project includes replacing the water supply and sewerage networks and separating wastewater and rainwater pipes. Telecommunications infrastructure is also being updated, while the public lighting system is to receive 30 new LED fixtures.
At street level, the council plans to rebuild the road surface as a single-level platform, with printed concrete on the roadway and granite paving on the pavements. The stated aim is to make the area more accessible and comfortable for pedestrians while improving its appearance.
Mayor Ángeles Muñoz visited the works with Diego López, the councillor responsible for public works. The council says the project is being carried out through water company Hidralia and responds to residents’ requests for a full renewal rather than further piecemeal repairs.
Muñoz said the existing installations were very old and had become obsolete despite partial repairs over the years. The council says the concentration of homes and services in the area makes a coordinated upgrade necessary.
The work is expected to cause disruption for residents while it is under way. The council has acknowledged the inconvenience and thanked affected residents for their understanding, but the supplied announcement does not give details of road closures, access arrangements or a specific completion date.
The project addresses both visible public-space improvements and underground networks. If it proceeds within the stated timetable, residents can expect the works to run for eight months, with the rebuilt streets and renewed services forming the main changes once construction is complete.
