Málaga Port Authority has opened a tender for a €58.5 million project to build a new Muelle 8 and extend Muelle 9, according to the supplied material. The works are planned to provide about 70,000 square metres of additional operational and storage space and allow container operators to handle two ships at once.

The project also includes dredging the harbour basin to a depth of 15.6 metres, intended to accommodate vessels with a draught of up to 13.5 metres. Bids are due by 10 December 2026. Construction is expected to last 27 months once a contract has been awarded.

The expansion is part of the Port Authority’s 2026–2030 investment programme. The material says port cargo volumes exceeded three million tonnes in the first half of 2026, up 13.2% on the same period a year earlier; container traffic rose 16.1%.
