A dance fundraiser at Olivia’s restaurant in Mijas Costa raised more than €9,000 for the La Cala de Mijas Lions dementia support group, according to the event organisers.

The evening, called Strictly Olivia’s: Dancing for Dementia, was organised by Marbella-based dance student Jacqueline “Jaks” Becker and her tutor Alberto Andrada. Guests watched Latin American and ballroom dance displays and shared a three-course meal.

Ten euros from each ticket was donated to the Lions group, with additional money raised during the event. The volunteer-run group offers help and support to people affected by neurodegenerative diseases and their families.

Organisers are following up with weekly dance classes at Olivia’s, with €3 from each participant going to the Lions dementia group. The classes are scheduled for Thursdays from 5pm to 7pm.

Those wishing to book can contact Andrada on WhatsApp at 663 668 052. The classes provide a continuing way to contribute to the group after the one-off fundraiser.

Becker said the organisers were delighted to have raised more than €9,000 and said the money would support the people helped by the volunteer group.
