Marbella’s Puerto Deportivo Virgen del Carmen will host its first organised cruise-sailing passage on Saturday, 31 October, with around 20 participants expected. The event is intended to promote cruising under sail and bring more nautical activity to the municipal port.

The crews are from Marbella, Benalmádena and La Línea de la Concepción, according to the Ayuntamiento. The Real Club Marítimo is organising the event in collaboration with the marina.

The programme begins at 10:00 with a skippers’ meeting, where technical guidance will be provided and the conditions for the passage confirmed. Boats are scheduled to leave the port at 10:30, with the passage due to begin at about 11:00.

After the time at sea, participants will gather for lunch at the club, followed by a trophy presentation. The announcement does not specify the route, distance, or a public viewing point, so visitors seeking details should check with the organisers.

Marina director Carlos Romero said the organisers hope to make the passage a regular fixture. The stated longer-term aim is to assess the response to this first edition and work towards including the event in the Andalusian Sailing Federation’s official calendar.

Real Club Marítimo president Fernando Oltra thanked the port and the Ayuntamiento for their cooperation, describing the passage as part of joint efforts to promote nautical sports. Whether it becomes an annual event will depend on how the inaugural edition develops.
