Andalusia’s regional government has handed over the keys to 24 affordable rental homes in Fuengirola, Málaga province, intended for young people under 35. Housing, Youth and Territorial Planning Minister Rocío Díaz attended the handover with Fuengirola Mayor Ana Mula. The homes are expected to provide affordable housing for 24 young families in the municipality.

The development cost €3.8 million. More than €1.1 million of that was provided by the Andalusian Government through Programme 6 of the Ecovivienda Plan, representing close to 30% of the total cost.

The project follows the handover in February 2026 of 15 special-regime social rental homes in Fuengirola. Together, the two developments bring regional government investment in housing projects in the municipality to almost €2 million.

Díaz said the regional government is currently promoting more than 1,500 protected homes across Málaga province, with investment of more than €65 million to increase the housing supply and improve access to homes. Projects include more than 1,000 protected homes under construction in the University sector of Málaga city, as well as 505 homes included in the latest Ecovivienda Plan call in Málaga city and Vélez-Málaga. Other projects to expand the housing stock are planned in Málaga city, Algarrobo and Ronda, among other locations.

Díaz said the regional government aims to increase the supply of protected housing by speeding up urban planning procedures and bringing land into use. She said the new Andalusian Housing Law would facilitate residential developments by simplifying administrative procedures and providing greater legal certainty.

Since February 2025, the regional government has also been implementing a plan to promote the construction of 20,000 protected homes over five years. The plan is accompanied by increased public investment in housing—three times the 2018 level—and tax measures intended to make housing more accessible, particularly for young people.
