During the 2025–2026 school year, the department, through the Andalusian Public Education Agency, began work on six new schools, five expansions and two renovations, with a total investment of more than €67.1 million.
The new projects include secondary schools in the Soliva area of Málaga (€11.1 million), Benalmádena (€10.7 million) and Las Marinas in Roquetas de Mar, Almería (€9.3 million). They also include the second phase of CEIP Entrenúcleos in Dos Hermanas, Seville (€6.9 million); replacement of CEIP Intelhorce in Campanillas, Málaga (more than €6.7 million); and renewed work on a phased new secondary school in Dos Hermanas (€6.7 million), after the previous contractor abandoned the project.
The five expansions are at CEIP Nueva Andalucía in Adra, Almería (more than €3.7 million); León Ortega School of Art in Huelva (€3.6 million); IES Lola Flores in Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz (€3.2 million); IES Santa Teresa in Jaén (€1.5 million); and IES Torre Almirante in Algeciras, Cádiz, where new facilities for vocational training courses are being created (€1.1 million). Together, the expansions total €13.2 million. The two renovations, each budgeted at €1.1 million, are replacement of window and door joinery and interior finishes at IES San Blas in Aracena, Huelva, and comprehensive rehabilitation of buildings at IES Virgen de la Esperanza in La Línea de la Concepción, Cádiz.
Six projects begun before the latest school year are still under construction, with a combined cost of more than €42.4 million. They comprise new secondary schools at Las Salinas in Roquetas de Mar (€9.4 million) and in the Almerimar-Matagorda area of Almería (€8.6 million); expansion and comprehensive renovation of IES Virgen del Carmen in Puerto Real, Cádiz (more than €8.2 million); replacement of CEIP Bernardo Barco in La Campana, Seville (€7.7 million), and CEIP Pablo Ruiz Picasso in Fuengirola, Málaga (€4.5 million); and a new primary-school building at CEIP Los Argonautas in Chipiona, Cádiz (more than €3.8 million). The department said CEIP Bernardo Barco, already in use since the 2025–2026 school year, and the new IES Las Salinas are due to be completed by the start of the 2026–2027 school year. It expects to receive the IES Lola Flores and CEIP Los Argonautas projects before the end of the year. Work is under way to ensure the Fuengirola project can continue following unforeseen issues with the contractor.
Four other major projects have been awarded but have not yet started, with budgets totalling €22 million: a new secondary school in La Cala del Moral, Rincón de la Victoria, Málaga (more than €8 million); expansion of CPR San Miguel in San Juan de los Terreros, Pulpí, Almería (more than €2.9 million); expansion of IES Blas Infante in Ogíjares, Granada (€5.8 million); and refurbishment of buildings for the new home of the María de Molina Professional Music Conservatory in Úbeda (about €5.5 million). Work on the conservatory is conditional on an archaeological study currently being processed.
The department has also recently put the expansion of CEIP Andalucía in Santa María del Águila, El Ejido, Almería, out to tender for more than €3 million. The projects are part of the Education Department’s infrastructure plan, implemented by the Andalusian Public Education Agency. Twenty-two receive co-funding from the European Regional Development Fund for 2021–2027; the exceptions are the IES San Blas and IES Virgen de la Esperanza renovations, which are funded by the regional government’s Andalucía Actúa plan to repair education facilities damaged by severe weather early in the year.
