Andalusia’s regional minister for Housing, Youth and Spatial Planning, Rocío Díaz, has visited the Inturjoven hostel in Marbella and an adjoining site where construction is under way. The project, funded with €24.8 million by Marbella City Council, includes an underground car park, sports facilities and green and recreational areas. It is intended to expand the hostel’s services and improve its facilities. Completion is scheduled for 2028.
The work covers an 8,580.49-square-metre site linked to the hostel. Under an agreement with the Andalusian regional government, the city council was granted an administrative concession for the land to carry out the project.
The two-level underground car park will have 571 spaces. One level will be available to local residents and the other will operate on a rotating basis. During the concession, 80 spaces will be reserved for Inturjoven hostel users. The project will also include a new Andalusian Employment Service office, a bus loading and unloading area on Avenida Trapiche, and a support building beside the sports facilities.
The multi-sports area is designed for basketball, five-a-side football, handball, volleyball, tennis and badminton. The hostel will have exclusive use of the courts and adjoining building from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. during summer. During the rest of the year, it will have reserved use from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends and public holidays.
Plans also include landscaped green and recreational spaces, with trees, a lawn for sports and outdoor activities, an area for marquees and six picnic tables. Inturjoven users will have preferential use of these areas during Easter and the summer season.
Díaz said the project combines regional-government land with a major investment by the city council. Marbella Mayor Ángeles Muñoz said the work would address a longstanding demand for parking in a particularly sensitive part of the city. She said construction had been under way for two months and was progressing as planned.
The Marbella Inturjoven hostel accommodated 3,884 people from January 1 to August 20, 2026. Of its users, 50.08% were under 26. Guests came from as many as 55 nationalities; the largest groups were Spanish, with 2,245 users, Italian, with 329, French, with 182, and Polish, with 179.
Located in Marbella’s historic centre, the hostel has a maximum capacity of 204 guests. It has double, triple and quadruple rooms with private bathrooms, as well as gardens, terraces, a swimming pool, parking and three rooms for activities and events.
