The ‘Natural Park of Andalusia’ brand was scheduled to take part in several events where the regional government would promote the quality label for products and services made or offered in protected areas. After appearing in late August at Expohuelma, a fair for Sierra Mágina Natural Park held in Huelma, Jaén, the brand was due to attend the Málaga Goat Fair in September and Intercaza, Córdoba’s fair for leisure, hunting, active tourism and the environment. Intercaza was expected to feature protected natural areas across the province and showcase newly certified products and services based in Córdoba’s natural parks. A similar presentation was planned for late October at the 18th edition of Ibercaza, Jaén province’s hunting and fishing fair.
The brand currently certifies more than 1,800 items: 858 artisanal products, 47 natural products and 899 tourism services, supplied by nearly 200 businesses located in protected areas. The label certifies quality and authenticity, as well as origin in areas of high ecological value and a commitment to sustainable development in the municipalities where the businesses operate. Its offerings include nature tourism, such as stargazing, olive-oil tourism and hiking, alongside products including extra-virgin olive oil and handmade wood, cork and ceramic goods.
By province, Cádiz has the most participating businesses, with 48. Granada has 32, Almería 29, Córdoba 22, Jaén 20, Huelva 16, Málaga 13 and Seville nine. Sierra Nevada has the most certified products and services in a natural area, with 255: 160 artisanal products, 85 tourism services and 10 natural products. Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park follows with 241, including 233 tourism services, while Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche has 189, of which 153 are artisanal products.
Businesses must meet sustainability requirements to receive certification. These include reducing environmental impact, using resources responsibly and following production processes that respect natural cycles. An independent certification body oversees compliance. The label is intended to distinguish certified businesses and support their access to new markets.
