Andalusian regional government president Juanma Moreno inaugurated the second phase of the Camino del Desfiladero in Ronda, Málaga. The 500-metre walkway beside the Guadalevín River joins the 200 metres opened in the first phase. Moreno said it offers “a different and astonishing perspective of the Tajo gorge, making it an experience of integration rather than separation.”
Designed by architect Luis Machuca, who also designed the Caminito del Rey, the walkway was built at a low height to respect the natural surroundings. Moreno said Ronda brings together “a natural monument and a historical-artistic one, which together make up one of Andalusia’s great wonders.” He also spoke of Andalusia’s capacity to offer new perspectives on its natural heritage.
Moreno thanked the Andalusian regional government, Málaga Provincial Council and Ronda City Council for their understanding, work and cooperation on the project, and reaffirmed the regional government’s commitment to Ronda and the surrounding area.
He also referred to road projects, including work on the A-357 between Casapalma and Cerralba, on the Málaga-Ronda-Campillos route. On the Algodonales-Ronda road, he noted emergency works with a budget of €4 million after the route was seriously affected by a succession of storms. The work is intended to provide safer communications and improve the connection with Ronda.
On cultural heritage, Moreno referred to work to prevent the Acinipo archaeological site, a Roman-era site, from falling into neglect and disappearing. He also said urban development work in La Dehesa had been completed, making it possible to build 365 protected homes. He described the Camino del Desfiladero inauguration as a historic day for Ronda and invited people to visit the city and its natural and historical heritage.
