Andalusia’s Public Transport Management and Control Centre is expected to begin operating in 2027, regional Minister for Development and Mobility Mario Muñoz-Atanet announced at the opening of the Greencities, Urban Intelligence & Smart Mobility forum at Málaga’s Palace of Fairs and Congresses (Fycma). The centre is intended to monitor transport services in real time.
Muñoz-Atanet attended the opening with Málaga Mayor Francisco de la Torre and José de la Uz, president of the Spanish Network of Smart Cities (RECI). He said modernising public transport should help passengers plan their journeys, know when their transport will arrive and have greater certainty about reaching their destination.
The minister said the centre would play a key role by monitoring services in real time, responding more quickly to incidents and providing passengers with updated, reliable information. Located at the headquarters of the Ministry for Development and Mobility, it is already equipped with furniture, information and communications technology infrastructure, and a large video wall intended to provide an overall, up-to-date view of the transport system.
Software development is under way, Muñoz-Atanet said. The centre is due to start operating in 2027, after all Andalusian transport concessions have been renewed and service data has been entered. In its first phase, it will monitor all transport services covered by Andalusia’s transport consortia. The minister said the network is growing and aims to exceed 150 million passengers, twice the 2019 figure.
Muñoz-Atanet said the control centre’s information would support better decisions and service for the public. He also described Greencities as a forum for sharing knowledge, experience and innovation in areas including sustainability and mobility.
