The Andalusian Regional Ministry of Employment, Enterprise and Self-Employment had opened applications for 630 free training places in artificial intelligence and big data, the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart cities, and virtual and augmented reality. The courses were scheduled to run from October to December across the region’s eight provinces, aiming to strengthen the digital skills of unemployed people and workers in fields including industry, logistics, tourism, health, education and city management.

The 14 courses form part of the second edition of the Employment Training Programme in 5G Technologies, run by the Andalusian government in collaboration with Vodafone and Integra Conocimiento & Innovación. The initiative has a budget of €3 million and plans to deliver 84 courses for almost 3,700 students, continuing a programme launched by the ministry in 2023.

The courses are aimed primarily at unemployed people, but up to 30% of vacant places may be filled by workers seeking to update or expand their digital skills. Each course has 45 places and comprises 150 hours of instruction over eight weeks. Training is 80% online and 20% in-person tutoring, with a practical focus.

Applicants can check schedules, course content and application deadlines, and submit applications through formacionen5g.es or the Andalusian government’s Virtual Office for Employment Training. No prior technology knowledge or experience is required, but applicants must hold at least an upper-secondary qualification, a medium- or higher-level vocational qualification, a level 3 professional certificate, a university degree or an equivalent qualification. Participants who complete the training receive a diploma issued by the ministry.

The programme covers three related specialisms. The course on programming in artificial intelligence and big data for 5G environments includes Java programming, 5G security, business intelligence, and AI and big data solutions. The next courses were due to start in Seville on 13 October, Almería on 26 October and Huelva on 28 October.

Courses were scheduled to begin in Córdoba on 26 October; Granada on 28 October; Seville, Málaga and Linares on 3 November; Jerez de la Frontera on 5 November; and Huelva on 21 December.

The virtual and augmented reality specialism focuses on developing projects, creating 3D content, and programming with Unity 3D and C#. Its next courses were due to start in Málaga and Jaén on 4 November, Algeciras on 6 November and Córdoba on 18 December.
