The Andalusian regional government is preparing a new auction of unused public land and buildings that could accommodate nearly 300 homes, depending on the urban planning rules in each locality. The government said the auction will be published during the week of September 29, 2026, and will cover 15 lots across the provinces of Seville, Málaga, Jaén, Huelva, Córdoba, Cádiz and Almería.

The lots include parking spaces, farms and plots in industrial estates, commercial premises, vacant plots and urban buildings that have gone unused for years, in some cases decades, while continuing to incur maintenance costs for the administration. Examples include a plot on Pablo Neruda Street in Almería, unused since 1989 or 1990, and a site on Cádiz Avenue in the San Bernardo district of Seville, unused since the regional government acquired it in 2005.

Assets that could be used for housing include a plot at 275 Pablo Neruda Street in Almería; a building on Marqués de Valdeíñigo Street in Cádiz; six plots on Mexico Avenue and a property between Colombia and Panama streets, both in Baeza (Jaén); a building at 5 Miss Whitney Avenue in Huelva; and a plot on Cádiz Avenue in San Bernardo, Seville. Together, these assets have capacity for 291 homes. They may be developed as market-rate or protected housing, in line with local planning and current legislation on protected housing.

The auction includes measures intended to make it easier for potential investors to take part, including deferred payment for the two highest-value assets. Buyers may pay for the San Bernardo plot over up to four annual instalments, and for the former San Francisco de Asís juvenile detention centre in Torremolinos over up to two.

The regional government said auctions of public assets held since 2019 have generated €148.2 million. It said the proceeds have gone toward improving public services, including healthcare, education and care for dependent people, while sales have also reduced the costs of maintaining properties no longer needed to carry out the regional administration’s responsibilities.

The deadline for submitting bids is 2 p.m. on November 30, 2026. The bids will be opened publicly at 10 a.m. on December 15 at Torretriana in Seville.
