Cremations made up 86.04 per cent of funeral services at Málaga city’s San Gabriel cemetery between January and September, according to figures published by SUR. The cemetery recorded 3,558 cremations and 577 burials during the period.

The figures point to a strong preference for cremation among families using the city’s funeral services. San Gabriel’s Garden of Remembrance provides plots where ashes can be placed beside existing trees or a newly planted one. The garden has 683 plots and holds 939 urns, SUR reported.
