A temporary market is being prepared near San Pedro Alcántara’s existing market so businesses can continue trading during a planned full refurbishment of the current site. Marbella Council says it expects the temporary facility to open before the end of 2026.
The modules have been installed, but refrigeration units, toilets and a canopy for the central area are still outstanding. The council says traders are due to move in over the coming weeks once the final work is complete.
The planned stalls include fishmongers, butchers, a florist, frozen-food and fruit-and-vegetable sellers, as well as a café and other businesses. The council says the temporary site will let traders remain in their usual area while the existing market is renovated.
After the refurbishment, traders are expected to return to their original pitches. The modules will then be dismantled and moved to a municipal plot in Las Chapas, where the council had planned to establish a market in 2027. The site there is to be prepared during the coming year; the future market will have a selection process for interested operators.
