A 12-year-old preparing for a cycling journey around the world visited the ACE-SHIN animal rescue centre in Mijas Costa on 2 November, meeting dogs he hopes to help through the expedition.

Samuel’s project aims to bring attention to abandoned dogs by filming one at each shelter stop and sharing its story in the hope of helping it find a home. His parents, Wendy and Ronald, will travel with him.

The family plans to set off from Málaga on 15 November and cover about 20,235 kilometres over 594 days. The visit to ACE-SHIN, where founder Fabienne Paques introduced Samuel to animals in the centre’s care, was intended to give him experience ahead of the planned shelter visits.

The family is seeking €5,500 through a fundraising campaign to help pay for the trip. Its estimated food and accommodation costs are about €42 a day, before transport, repairs and other expenses.
