Marbella’s local senior football 7 and basketball leagues are under way, with more than 700 players taking part, according to the town council. The programme includes competitions for adults aged over 18 and a veterans division for players over 35.
The senior football 7 league has 12 teams and around 200 players. It began two weeks before the council’s announcement and is being played at the Arroyo Primero sports facility.
The veterans’ football league has 26 teams and about 400 players, split between first and second divisions. Its season begins on Monday, with matches scheduled each week from 9pm to 11pm at Santa María de Las Chapas, Luis Teruel and Serrano Lima.
The senior basketball competition has six teams and 100 players. It started on 18 October, with games taking place on Sundays between 5pm and 8pm. The council announcement does not specify the venue for the basketball matches.
The town council says matches in both sports will again be overseen by federation-qualified referees, under agreements with the Andalusian football and basketball federations. It also plans to provide each team with official balls for its league.
The competitions give participating teams regular fixtures across the week: football on Monday evenings and basketball on Sunday afternoons. The council has not announced a closing date or provided a full match schedule.
