San Roque is using the World Travel Market in London to promote itself to British visitors as both a holiday destination and a place where many people own homes.

Mayor Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix said the municipality was seeking to consolidate its position in the British market. He highlighted golf and polo in Sotogrande, the marina and beaches, as well as the history, food and attractions of San Roque town and the smaller communities within the municipality.

Ruiz Boix said British home ownership adds to visitor numbers arriving via Málaga and Gibraltar airports. He also said the agreement to remove the border fence between Spain and Gibraltar could support tourism development by enabling more flights at Gibraltar Airport, including connections with Spanish and other European cities.

The mayor pointed to Valderrama’s hosting of the 1997 Ryder Cup, whose 30th anniversary falls next year, as an important part of San Roque’s international profile. The municipality is also promoting places including Alcaidesa beach and Pinar del Rey.
