Mijas residents can apply from Monday, 19 October, for municipal grants aimed at easing the costs faced by households that include a person with a recognised disability. The Ayuntamiento has allocated €600,000 to the scheme and says applications will be accepted for 10 working days.
The council’s Inclusion Social department published the call and its rules in the Official Gazette of the Province. The grants are awarded through a competitive process, with the amount each successful applicant receives determined by an assessment of their application.
Eligible applicants must have a disability rating in force of at least 45% if they are adults, or 33% if they are under 18. They must also be registered in Mijas and have lived there continuously for at least five years immediately before applying.
Household income limits are calculated as a percentage of the annual IPREM public income indicator. The cap is 250% of IPREM for a one-person household, 300% for two people, 420% for three and 470% for four. For each additional household member from the fifth onwards, the threshold rises by a further 30% of annual IPREM.
Where the person receiving support is a minor, the income limits set out in the rules increase by 200% of annual IPREM. Applicants should check the full published conditions, as meeting the headline residency, disability and income tests does not by itself guarantee an award.
Grant amounts depend on the score: €1,800 for applications scoring up to 35 points, €2,520 for scores of 36 to 50, and €3,240 for scores above 50. The scheme is intended to help meet the financial burden on families and support the quality of life of both recipients and their carers.
The council says the allocation is higher than the €525,000 provided in previous years and that revised income thresholds mean more Mijas residents may qualify. Applications must be submitted within the 10-working-day period; the announcement does not specify when decisions or payments will be made.
